All notable changes to the Macrion project are documented on this page. Each version reflects a published release on GitHub.

Macrion 0.6.2

Bug Fixes & Refinements

  • Fix the first action failing to save in an empty simple scenario, including after deleting all actions.
  • Keep action and condition previews and gesture-recording state synchronized with the selected item when lists change.

Macrion 0.6.1

Bug Fixes & Refinements

  • Remember each scenario’s expanded and collapsed event folders when reopening the event list or restarting Macrion.
  • Clarify network use in the app description: optional OCR language-model downloads and crash reports sent only when you choose Send.

Macrion 0.6.0

Macrion 0.6.0 delivers our most requested feature by far: full support for complex multi-touch gestures and freehand curved swipes. You can now automate multi-finger interactions like pinches and zooms, alongside custom curved swipe paths with synchronized timing and node-level control.

Multi-Touch Gestures

  • Simultaneous Multi-Finger Actions: Automate multi-finger interactions, including pinch-to-zoom and coordinated taps or swipes.
  • Gesture Recording Recommended: For the smoothest setup (such as pinch-to-zoom), try using the Record gesture flow rather than building gestures manually—though manual creation in the child workspace remains available if you prefer configuring each stroke by hand.
  • Dedicated Child Workspace: Fine-tune each finger's path, duration, and coordinates independently or inspect the combined timeline.
  • Combine & Unsplit Touches: Merge existing standalone clicks and swipes into coordinated multi-touch actions, or unsplit combined gestures back into individual actions.

Freehand Curved Swipes

  • Live Gesture Tracing: Record fluid, curved swipes with a live path trace visible on screen while drawing.
  • Interactive Node Editing: Fine-tune curves in the position selector by dragging individual nodes along the fitted path.
  • Accurate Replay: Execute smooth, natural curved swipes across Smart, Dumb, and Multi-touch scenarios.

Gesture Quality of Life Improvements

  • Numbered Sequence Badges: Numbered badges now appear directly within action preview rings and swipe paths so you can see touch order at a glance.
  • Simultaneous Action Previews: Preview all actions in an event at once on screen, with a setting to preview only the currently selected action if the display becomes cluttered.
  • Direct Handle Dragging: Adjust action positions directly by dragging handles from the carousel, complete with an interactive undo snackbar.
  • Configurable Action Delays: Add optional pre-action and post-action pauses to individual touches or standalone actions for precise timing control.

Scenario Event Folders

  • Group scenario events into collapsible, named folders to keep complex automation routines organized.
  • Reorder entire folders or move events between folders using drag and drop.
  • Folders currently serve to reduce visual overload in scenarios with many events. Future updates will expand on this with capabilities like copying folders and reusing them across scenarios.

New Automation Actions

  • Capture Screenshot: Automatically capture screenshots during scenario runs to a customizable folder, with built-in rate-limit safeguards.
  • Play Sound: Play in-built notification or custom sounds during scenario execution using a dedicated sound picker.

Bug Fixes & Refinements

  • Add an execution rate limiter for screen conditions to cap check frequency, saving CPU and battery.
  • Preview click offsets at actual screen scale, with automatic cycling through OR condition examples.
  • Enforce canonical prefix validation when extracting OCR model archives.
  • Prevent a native crash when vision detection stops before full initialization.
  • Improve drag-and-drop reordering responsiveness and eliminate visual flicker when moving items.
  • Repair dangling scenario references when exporting in Klick'r-compatible format.
  • Properly handle service notification dismissal when overlays are hidden.
  • Suppress redundant screen-capture permission denial notifications when launching scenarios externally.
  • Keep floating action buttons properly dimmed behind open modal dialogs.
  • Refine toolbar auto-hide settings defaults and add a "Never" option.
  • Expand localization coverage and translations across settings.

Macrion 0.5.0

Modernized Interface

  • Complete the XML-to-Jetpack Compose migration: Macrion’s interface is now fully native Jetpack Compose.
  • Give overlay menus consistent rounded corners for a more cohesive, modern appearance.
  • Update icons throughout the app to Material Symbols Rounded, with subtle refinements to their shapes and visual balance.

Refreshed Settings

  • Refresh and modernize the Settings layout, organizing controls into clear categories.
  • Introduce an Advanced settings section. Its first option lets you raise the maximum configurable tolerated difference for image and other supported conditions from 20% to as much as 50%.
  • Add an About section showing the installed version number and installation source.

Action and Condition Carousels

  • Swipe through multiple cards with a single fast flick.
  • Reorganize the button layout to make each control’s purpose clearer.
  • Move reordering into its own menu, accessible through the ⇅ icon.

Customizable Floating Toolbar

  • Resize the toolbar from 50% to 150%, with a live preview.
  • Automatically hide the toolbar while no scenario is running. Auto-hide is enabled by default after two minutes; disable it or choose a delay from three seconds to ten minutes in Settings.

Bug Fixes & Refinements

  • Preview images, colors, text, numeric comparisons, and trigger details directly from the report’s Conditions and Timeline tabs.
  • Replace RGB color-editing sliders with hue, saturation, and brightness controls.
  • Improve drag-and-drop reordering with clearer feedback and easier dragging from the reorder handle.
  • Improve light and dark theme consistency across icons, text, and borders.
  • Keep overlay editors usable when the keyboard opens and improve layout handling during screen rotation.
  • Improve report fast scrolling and scrollbar behavior.
  • Improve notification text readability and reduce truncation.
  • Remember external “Run current scenario” requests received while the screen-capture permission prompt is awaiting acceptance, so the scenario runs immediately once accepted.
  • Keep external-action choices current while editing scenarios, and add clearer broadcast guidance and a documentation shortcut.
  • Handle accessibility-service loss and scenario shutdown more reliably.
  • Remove premature empty-state flashes from scenario and overlay lists.
  • Correct remaining unintended Klick’r references to Macrion.

  • Fixed overlay appearance and theming across displays and rotations.
  • Prevented crashes when an overlay view has already been detached.
  • Added a safe fallback when Android cannot create Macrion’s custom service notification.
  • Made preference-storage failures recover gracefully instead of crashing the app.
  • Kept the running-scenario toolbar below system bars.
  • Fixed the empty-scenario screen’s colors in dark and dynamic themes.
  • Clarified tutorial terminology by consistently using “Wait.”
  • Corrected the opening flow of the Spanish tutorial.

Macrion 0.3.0

Macrion 0.3.0 brings a major architectural migration to Jetpack Compose across the entire interface, privacy-focused FOSS crash reporting, and numerous refinements and stability fixes.

Jetpack Compose UI Migration

  • Modern Architecture with Visual Parity: Migrated nearly all screens, editors, dialogs, overlays, and tutorials from legacy Android Views to Jetpack Compose. This overhaul focuses on adopting a modern UI architecture while making every effort to preserve visual parity and familiarity.
  • Foundation for Future Updates: Transitioning to Compose lays the groundwork for upcoming features and makes implementing future interface improvements significantly easier.
  • Migration Notice: Because this was an extensive overhaul across nearly the entire application, minor visual bugs or edge cases may have slipped through. If you spot any issues, please report them so they can be addressed promptly.

FOSS Crash Reporting & Privacy

  • Fully FOSS & F-Droid Compliant: Proprietary crash libraries have been completely removed in favor of fully open-source (FOSS) solutions, preparing Macrion for and ensuring strict compliance with F-Droid policies.
  • Zero Automatic Transmission: Absolutely no diagnostic or usage data is transmitted automatically in the background.
  • Privacy-First Diagnostics: If a crash ever occurs, an option is presented on the next startup allowing you to review and send diagnostic details. Extensive steps have been taken to sanitize and scrub reports so that they contain almost no personally identifiable information (PII).

Macrion 0.2.0

This release introduces touch pass-through for the live Debug panel alongside targeted stability and interface fixes.

Live Debug Panel Touch Pass-Through

The live Debug panel now allows interaction with the screen underneath while running:

  • Pass-Through Taps & Gestures: Both user-initiated touches and Macrion-initiated automation clicks now pass directly through the debug overlay to the underlying app without obstruction.
  • Unified Controls: The toolbar buttons remain fully interactive, and the toolbar and debug feed move together as one seamless overlay.
  • Platform Support: Supported on Android 13 and newer via Android's native surface touch-region API. On Android 12 and older, the panel remains visible and interactive using the standard window capture model.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed floating overlay positions along the top or left screen edges not being restored correctly.
  • Cleaned up remaining legacy branding references across multiple translated languages.

Macrion 0.1.0

This is the first public release of Macrion. It introduces in-session scenario switching, deep third-party automation integration, and granular performance diagnostics.

Scenario Switcher

Quickly switch between Smart scenarios directly during an automation session without exiting back to the main app:

  • Saved Sorting Preferences: The switcher lists scenarios using the same sort order configured on your Macrion home screen.
  • Notification Quick Action: The ongoing service notification action now opens the Scenario Switcher by default instead of opening the home screen.
  • Overlay Availability: The notification switcher is always active by default. If you also want a quick-switch button directly on the floating overlay toolbar, it can be enabled in Settings.

External Automation (Tasker, MacroDroid, Automate)

Macrion now integrates directly with Android automation tools—including Tasker, MacroDroid, and Automate—using an interoperable plugin standard (Locale Plugin protocol under the hood):

  • Scenario Controls: Launch a specific scenario, run/resume the currently loaded scenario, or stop automation directly from external automation flows.
  • Scenario State (Status Plugin): Queries Macrion's live status (running, paused, stopped, and active scenario) and maps it into variables in your automation app. This allows Tasker or MacroDroid to monitor Macrion in real time and act as an overarching coordinator across multiple scenarios.
  • External Action: A new action type for Smart scenarios when Macrion's built-in actions are not sufficient and more granular device control is needed (such as changing volume, taking screenshots, sending toast notifications, or altering system settings). Where existing Android automation apps already excel, Macrion delegates to them to fulfill the gap.
    • Scenario Chaining Workaround: Because Macrion currently lacks the ability to automatically switch scenarios by itself within a scenario, you can call an External Action at the end of a scenario. Your external automation app intercepts it, executes the switch, and launches the next scenario. This acts as a practical workaround until native intra-scenario switching is introduced in a future update.

Performance Diagnostics & Debug Reports

The Debug Report now provides in-depth performance analytics to help diagnose and optimize complex scenarios:

  • Execution Wait Time (Overview Tab): Displays active CPU processing time saved by the Execution Limiter, providing clear visibility into reduced processor load and improved battery efficiency.
  • Condition Performance Tab: Shows the exact evaluation time spent on each condition, allowing you to pinpoint bottlenecks and optimize resource-heavy image, color, or text checks.
  • Activity & Timeline Refinements: Added an Event Activity summary displaying trigger counts per event, alongside detection and action timing metadata and draggable scrollbars in the timeline.
